[recs] over the garden wall
Sorry for being so dead! May was a crazy month for me considering all the exams, and then I was pretty dead. Went on 2 different retreats (both tiring and giving me less than my 9-10 hour needed sleep). I'll actually be gone for all of July and most of August too, so I'll probably try to make it up with some smaller posts this month! *coughs like half of June hasn't also disappeared. Honestly, I know that not a lot of people keep up with my blog, so it's kinda like a personal record? It's more of an archive I suppose, where I post my own thoughts in a more organized fashion than Twitter, but in a less personal manner than a journal.
Anyways, onto Over the Garden Wall!
It is a 10 episode long miniseries that aired on Cartoon Network! It revolves around two step-brothers, Greg (teapot) and Wirt (gnome hat), and a bluebird named Beatrice. They meet a lot of interesting and weird characters on their journey to get back home. I absolutely love the slightly wonky and strange atmosphere that this show has. There's a drawling narrator and vintage style effects such as a movie reel that give OTGW a moody ambience.
As you can see from the screencaps, the art style can be both simple yet also very detailed. The characters have simple designs, but the overall setting adds much more depth.
I don't want to spoil the plot because! It's honestly very short and quick to binge-watch, so I'll spam the rest of this post with some pictures that help you get a better feel of Over the Garden Wall! Hopefully they make you want to check it out :)
My favorite character is Beatrice! She's honestly hilarious - with her sarcastic biting wit roasting Wirt at any chance she gets.
